This is excellent guidance, Tracey. The best coaching comes from creating a safe space for people and leading with curiosity. Leading with open-ended questions give individuals an opportunity to reflect.

The most difficult skill to master for many leaders is self-management, which you touch on in this article. Self-management means being confident enough to make the discussion about the other person and comfortable with silence and pauses without feeling the need to fill space.

I love the point you make, Jackie, about being confident enough to make the discussion about the other person. So much of being a great leader is centered on confidence and trust in your experience. Otherwise, it's fear that's in the driver's seat. And fear isn't a very good coach!
